A Chance to Talk About How I Approach the Work
Earlier this month, I participated in the League of Women Voters candidate forum for New Hope City Council.
I actually enjoyed the opportunity to answer some harder questions. Local government decisions are rarely as simple as yes or no, and I think residents deserve to know not just what I think, but how I get there.
A lot of my answers came back to the same things that guide me on the council now: do your homework, ask good questions, listen carefully, think about the long-term impact, and be willing to change your mind when the facts warrant it.
We talked about property taxes and the importance of keeping increases as low and predictable as possible while still protecting the basics people count on. We talked about public safety and why strong support for our police department and accountability can—and should—exist together. We talked about housing and redevelopment, where I continue to believe in the right housing in the right places rather than growth simply for the sake of growth.
And we talked about something that matters a lot to me: making sure people have a voice in their local government. You shouldn’t have to come to City Hall to have a voice at City Hall.
